There is an enormous resurgence of interest in the 13th century mystical poet Rumi. He is the greatest exponent of the ecstatic intoxication of sacred love.

Shahram Shiva, Rumi translator and author, captures the essence of the poet's message through his passionate performances. The union of spoken verse and live music – Todd Isler, melds magic with love. To complete the evening Shahram invites the audience to join him in a guided, ecstatic and meditative whirling experience with Todd's live accompaniment.

A performance poet, actor and award-winning Rumi translator, Shahram Shiva will perform his own English renditions as well as Rumi's original Persian verses. Far more than merely reading poetry over a musical background, Shiva's Rumi incantations weave a tapestry of inspired and dynamic sound with the organically flowing and responsive melodies and rhythms of critically acclaimed musician Todd Isler’s original music.

Rumi's popularity was greatly influenced by Bill Moyer's 1996 PBS special "Power of the Word." Rumi's world touches every one of us and his poems can be heard in grand Operas, concert halls, television, movies, colleges and universities as well as churches, synagogues and Zen monasteries. In Rumi's own words his poems are about being a "complete human," one who transcends cultural, political and religious boundaries. Rumi represents what is noble about humanity.
